Green steel revolution

YAMAHA SMT leads the way with greener SMT equipment

We are all looking into a close future where manufacturers should be prepared to integrate eco-friendly materials into their production processes. Yamaha  SMT embracing this, by taking a responsible step toward sustainability by introducing JFE Steel’s green steel, JGreeX, into the production of surface mount technology equipment.

For those involved in SMT production in Scandinavia and the Baltic region, where environmental responsibility is a growing focus, this is particularly relevant. Yamaha’s adoption of green steel for its SMT equipment highlights the shift toward greener manufacturing processes that resonate strongly with the eco-conscious approach of this region.

Starting in October 2024, Yamaha will incorporate JGreeX into the exterior parts of their YRM20 and YRM20DL pick & place machines

This green steel significantly reduces CO2 emissions through a mass balance approach, a method that allocates the CO2 reductions achieved through advanced technology to selected steel materials.
The result? Lower emissions without compromising on the high-quality standards expected in the Scandinavian and Baltic markets.

For EMS and OEM companies and industry professionals in this region, sustainability is not just a trend but a necessity. Yamaha’s initiative aligns well with the environmental goals many Scandinavian and Baltic companies are already pursuing. The region is already known for its leadership in green technologies, and Yamaha’s adoption of JGreeX steel could serve as a blueprint for other manufacturers looking to reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining product excellence.

This step by Yamaha SMT signal the beginning of a broader movement toward greener manufacturing in the SMT industry.  Yamaha Motor has a long-term environmental plan 2050, that aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its supply chain, pushing for 100% sustainable materials. As sustainability becomes an industry standard in the Nordic and Baltic electronics manufacturing sectors, using materials like JGreeX green steel  will likely become crucial for meeting both regulatory demands and consumer expectations.
